Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is HD?
A. HD is a television format with a much higher resolution and traditional television formats such as PAL or NTSC. HD is about 400% better than the TV pictures you are watching today. For a full technical explanation please refer to Wikipedia.

Q. Why film in HD ?
A. For may of todays applications we will have to 'down convert' the clarity of HD footage to SD (Standard definition footage) so it is compatible with todays DVD players and televisions. But, down converted HD footage is still noticeably better than footage which originated as SD.
However, the most important reason is that you are future proofing your investment. HD is witnessing explosive growth - Sky can't get their HD set top boxes delivered fast enough and more and more TV shows are being filmed in this format. What this means is that in 5 or 10 years time your footage won't look dated.

Q. Isn't filming in HD more expensive?
A. Actually no, despite what some may have you believe. We use the very robust Sony XDCAM HD format which records everything straight to disk. This is harder to corrupt, can be edited on site, and can be imported straight into the editing system. It saves us time......and you money, and delivers unbelievably beautiful images.
